New railway to hit other services

   December 6, 2017        1795

The high-speed railway service between Xi’an, capital of Northwest China’s Shaanxi Province, and Chengdu, capital of Southwest China’s Sichuan Province, is scheduled to start operating on Wednesday, and that will put heavy pressure on highway and flight services along the route, media reports said.

Starting December 16, flights from Chengdu to Xi’an will be reduced to three to four from 12 each day, and that will continue until March 2018, news site reported Tuesday.

Also, the minimum airfare will fall to 340 yuan ($51), compared with 379 yuan, the price of a first-class ticket on the Xi’an-Chengdu railway, the report said.

The new railway will also affect the Chengdu to Guangyuan highway route, the report said. Guangyuan is in the northern part of Sichuan Province. Revenue of the  highway may fall by 50 percent between Wednesday and February.
